About Me

Afterthefire1964 is a widow with two wonderful sons. Our family spent approximately six years living with an end-stage alcoholic who was my husband of 25 years. My husband died in June 2012. This blog has been created because of a lack of online resources for families in similar situations. Afterthefire1964 is an IT administrator at a regional university in the southwestern United States. In addition to her paying job, she is a composer and ethnomusicologist with a well-noted reputation. She is also a second degree black belt in American karate and she and her sons compete regularly in tournaments on the local, regional and national level.

The blog has been created as hopefully a helpful resource for families living through the nightmare and distress of watching their beloved succumb to alcohol or drug addiction and start to bring down the entire family unit with him.

The views and advice described on this blog pertain solely to the blog writer and her family and may not be optimal in individual reader situations. All that is being presented here is information that I wish I had had when living through our horrible situation from 2006 - 2012.
